Community

Working with the community to improve outcomes and aspirations is key to ensuring our children get the best start in life. We are committed to helping all our families to support their children at home and in the wider community.

Our Community Room is situated at the back of the school. It is set up as a place for community activities to take place.

The Community Room runs a varied programme of courses and activities for adults. Maths and English classes are for adults to improve their own skills and gain qualifications. These classes are open to the wider community although priority is given to our own parents. Other classes are for wider educational purposes for parents to learn new skills and socialise.

Our trained staff deliver bilingual Family Links classes for parents both from Dixons Marchbank and other schools in the area. These sessions are a chance to discuss strategies for helping your child with support from professionals and other parents.

GetTogether BD3 is run by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and is aimed at promoting parents to get involved with the community.

Some classes have a crèche facility to make sure all parents are able to attend and take advantage of the facility.

Once a term we invite parents into classrooms to take part in maths and English lessons alongside their children. We promise not to give you a spelling or times tables test!

Finally we run some classes and one off sessions in the main academy building for parents to be more involved in their child's education. Some sessions aim to provide information only whilst others offer parents the opportunity to do an activity with their child.

Our Parental Involvement Worker, Kirsty, is outside every morning to meet and greet. If you would like more information or to request a place on a course please let her know or speak to the office staff.

We take part in community activities including litter picking to keep our local area clean. We feel it is important that our children contribute to the local community, if you have an idea of a way to get involved, please speak to a member of leadership.
