Providing classes for the community
Working with the community to improve outcomes and aspirations is key to ensuring our children get the best start in life. We are committed to helping all our families support their children at home and in the wider community.
We do this in a number of ways: we have a dedicated Community Room, which is set up as a place for community activities to take place. From here, we run a varied programme of courses and activities for adults. These include maths and English classes, as well as opportunities for adults to learn new skills and socialise. We open these classes up to the wider community, although priority is given to our own parents.
We have trained staff who deliver bilingual Family Links classes for parents both from Dixons Marchbank and other schools in the area. These sessions are a chance to discuss strategies for helping your child, with support from professionals and other parents.
Some classes have a crèche facility to make sure all parents are able to attend and take advantage of the facility.
We also run some classes and one off sessions in the main academy building for parents to be more involved in their child's education. Some sessions aim to provide information only, whilst others offer parents the opportunity to do an activity with their child.
Our Parental Involvement Officer, Sameera, is around every morning to meet and greet. If you would like more information or to request a place on a course please let her know or speak to the office staff.
