Reading at the centre
Reading is the key to all future success, and our mission is for every child to leave Dixons Marchbank Primary able to read confidently at the expected Key Stage 2 standard.
Our systematic and ambitious reading curriculum, built on the principles of Read Write Inc., ensures that:
- Vocabulary is studied in depth: each class text is linked to history or geography units, supported by extracts and articles from the wider curriculum. Children learn to identify, define, and use new vocabulary regularly.
- Comprehension skills are strengthened: once children understand a text and its language, they practise strategies to uncover deeper meanings and analyse the author’s intent.
- Consistency supports confidence: every text is approached with the same structure, giving children a reliable method for tackling new and increasingly complex material.
Through this approach, reading becomes not only a skill but a gateway to success across the curriculum.
